Andrew "Andy" P. Nordstrom, Wausau, WI, passed away on November 29, 2024, at Mount View Care Center in Wausau, WI, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, following a brief battle with a very rare form of kidney cancer.
He was born in Prescott, Arizona on April 10, 1981, son of Brian Nordstrom and Rebecca Long Nordstrom. In his youth, he loved going on road trips with his parents and three siblings. He enjoyed putting together intricate Lego sets, affectionately earning him the nickname "Lego Andy" among his cousins. He also learned to play both the saxophone and guitar. Known to always put his best effort into everything he did, Andy took pride in earning the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that embodied the values of hard work that he carried throughout his life.
Andy attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where he earned a bachelor's degree in forestry. He worked as a park ranger in various parks throughout the U.S. including Alaska where he met his future wife, who was also working as a park ranger at that time. Their love of nature was something they shared, and together they enjoyed travelling and fishing. On May 26, 2007, he married his wife, Mary Kay Cherf in Philadelphia, PA. Together they had three children, Christiana, Meredith, and Marcus. Andy was a very hands-on father, always taking an interest in each of their lives. For the last decade, Andy worked as a construction coordinator at Spectrum. In recent years, he found joy in hand-carving wood, as well as reading and learning all he could about wood working. He was also very knowledgeable of guns, both of their care and their history, stemming from his time as a law enforcement park ranger.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Nordstrom, who stood by him as a devoted partner throughout their life together; his three children, Christiana, Meredith and Marcus, all of Wausau; his parents, Brian Nordstrom and Rebecca Nordstrom, both of Prescott, AZ; his three siblings, Amy (Dave) Terpstra, of Mozambique, Africa, Tim (Kelly) Nordstrom, of Redding, California, and Bethany (Tom) Ogilvie of Peoria, Arizona. Andy will be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as his parents-in-law, Mike and Mary Cherf of Wausau, and his brothers and sister-in-law, Ruth (Joe) Gomez of Wausau, Mike (Liliya) Cherf of Wausau, and Matt (Quinn) Cherf of Portland, Oregon.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson St., Weston, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family.
