Arlene Irene Krueger

May 19, 1937 — August 8, 2025

Wausau

Arlene Irene (Liebers) Krueger was born on May 19, 1937, with the proud distinction of being the first “trailer baby” born in Prentice, Wisconsin. Her parents, Alfred and Irene Liebers, welcomed her as their second child and only daughter. Alfred was employed with the Weymouth Construction Company, completing the paving of Highway 13 at the time.

Arlene, along with her parents and brothers, Herman, Ronald, and Dennis, eventually purchased and settled on the family farm in the town of Hewitt. Arlene attended school in the one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade and then graduated from Wausau High School. Living on the farm gave Arlene the opportunity to meet another young farm boy, romance blossomed, and she married Ronald Krueger on October 30, 1955.

Ronnie and Arlene welcomed their first son, Mark, the following year and then over the next few years welcomed Joy, Myron, and Fay. Arlene loved her family and the Lord. Through an invitation to attend evangelistic meetings, she became a member of the Wausau Seventh-day Adventist Church (The Shepherd’s House).

Her full-time job was her family; however, she did spend a short time working at Wausau Insurance and later in the cafeteria at Hewitt-Texas Elementary School once her children were attending school.

In the early years of her marriage, growing the garden, making maple syrup, canning fruit and vegetables, and using the harvest was survival for the young family. She and Ronnie also farmed and milked 30 cows daily for more than 10 years.

Arlene was known as the grandma who got on the floor to play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was able to run and keep up with them, as well as teach them about the earth and garden, which was her favorite place to spend her summers. She had the proud accomplishment of running her first 5K at the age of 78.

Arlene passed away on August 8, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children, Mark (Pamela) Krueger, Joy (Donald) Zimmerman, Myron (Donna) Krueger, and Fay (Jody) Sukow. Her youngest brother, Dennis (Jane) Liebers, also survives. Her legacy will live on in her grandchildren: Erin Zimmerman, Derek (Angel) Zimmerman, Daniel (Clarice) Zimmerman, Joshua (Justine) Cleveland, Jamie (Justin) Fisher, and Jodie (Chris) Savickis. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie; parents, Alfred and Irene; brothers, Herman and Ronald; and granddaughters, Jaime Weyneth and Lauren Kessen.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Kyle Hunter, Dr. Chad Radke, and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice for their compassionate care of Arlene.

In lieu of flowers or plants, donations to the Marathon County Humane Society are appreciated.
