Barbara A. Zank, age 88, of Weston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Rennes Health & Rehab Center in Weston. Born on December 26, 1936, in Wausau, she was the youngest daughter of the late Alvin and Leonora (Dalum) Zank.
Barb’s life was defined by her hardworking spirit, generosity, and integrity. She worked for Wausau Insurance for over 40 years, dedicating herself to her role as a Middle Tech until her retirement in 1995. In addition, Barb found great joy in being an ASA Umpire for the Wausau Softball Association, where she served for 30 years, fostering community and love for the game.
Her passions extended beyond work—Barb loved reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Whether it was tending to her garden, fishing on a lake, or cheering on her beloved Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers or teasing a Bear’s fan, Barb embraced life with enthusiasm and a wicked sense of humor. She cherished time spent with family, and her kindness, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed. Barb's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Barb is survived by her loving sister and best friend, Bonnie Zank of Weston; her dear nephew and nieces, Clay (Stacy) Zank of Cottage Grove; Tina (Dan) Pernsteiner of Hortonville and Cathy (John James) Zank of Wausau; great nieces Dianna, Ceara, Brooke, Faith, Ella, Kayleigh, and Amber; her great nephew Bradley, as well as her sister-in-law, Heloise Andersen of Weston. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, Dennis Zank.
A memorial service to celebrate Barb’s life will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1351 Grand Ave, Schofield, on Saturday, March 1. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. Kevin Schnake will officiate. Private burial at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau will take place at a later date.
