William "Bill" Myron Hussong

August 29, 1939 — April 13, 2026

Wausau

God said, “I have prepared a place for you and I will come to take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also” (John 14:3).

On April 13, 2026 William (Bill) Hussong went to join his parents and younger brother Dave in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bill was born on August 29, 1939 at Wausau Memorial Hospital to W. Myron and Ethel (Draeger) Hussong. He graduated from Wausau High School (1957) and then Concordia Teacher College in River Forest, IL (1961). He went on to earn his Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma (1967). Additional graduate work was done at Adelphi University, Hofstra University, Columbia University, Northwestern University and several National Radio and Optical astronomy observatories around the county. He was a member of the Phi Betta Kappa honors society.

His first job out of college was teaching sciences and mathematics courses at Long Island Lutheran High School in Glen Head (N.Y.). He enjoyed teaching and interacting with students as coach of the J.V. baseball and football teams. In 1967 had returned to his Alma Mater (now Concordia University of Chicago) as professor of earth/space sciences where he also taught science education classes. He developed and lead field study courses to Mexico, Hawaii and several areas of the United States mainland. He later taught some of the same classes at College of DuPage where he served for a time as Associate Dean of the Natural and Applied Sciences and Mathematics Division. During this time he also served for many years as an adjunct professor at Elmhurst College and Dominican University. Bill spent a total of 56 years in education before his retirement.

Bill met the love of his life, Jan (Bok) Hussong, a traveling Physical Therapist through a mutual friend at church. They were married on April 9, 1983 at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest, IL and made their home in Elmhurst before later moving to Wheaton. God blessed their loving marriage with two wonderful and healthy children, Ethan (1984) and Whitney (1986). After retirement they moved to Wausau to be closer to Bill’s younger brother Dave, who was diagnosed with two forms of aggressive cancer.

Bill enjoyed a full life after retirement with included traveling with his wife, time spent with family, Bible studies, playing 3-13 and Mexican Train or other games, enjoying the Brewers and Packers (where he and his son had gold package season tickets), reading and a deep interest in Native American culture (especially their settlements and effigy mound systems).

His is survived by his wife Jan and his children Ethan (Elizabeth Forest) Hussong of Chicago and Whitney (Lenny Roberts) of Eden, N.C.  He was proceeded in death by his parents and younger brother.
