Wausau

Brian Bessette, age 59, of Wausau, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

He was born on September 12, 1966, in Wisconsin, the son of Clayton and Janice (Zeinert) Bessette. Brian led a life imbued with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

As a self-employed entrepreneur, Brian's work ethic was unmatched. He was known as a hard worker who would extend his helping hand to anyone in need, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion that touched the lives of many. Throughout his life, he lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with a zest that inspired those around him.

Brian was a proud father to Alex (Kourtney) Bessette, Ryan Bessette, Lily Bessette, and Jack Bessette. His role as a son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather brought him immense joy, and these were among his proudest accomplishments. He cherished every lesson, every memory, and every laugh shared with his loved ones. Alongside his children, he created lasting traditions, often adventurous days spent fishing, hunting, and camping that will be deeply missed by them all.

His hobbies reflected his vibrant personality; an avid fisherman and hunter, Brian relished the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the outdoors. Every fishing trip and hunting excursion was not just about the activity itself, but also about the time spent together with family. A true card game enthusiast, he exhibited prowess as a “cribbage shark” and enjoyed playing chess, where his strategic mind shined through. An avid reader and devout Christian, Brian shared stories that brought laughter and joy to everyone around him, reminding us always to find light, even in our darkest moments.

Brian is survived by his beloved mother, Janice Northcott; his children, 5 grandchildren, his brothers Craig (Shelly) Bessette, James Bessette, and Andrew (Emily) Bessette; and sisters Kari (Doug) Weisshahn and Kristi (Phil) Harms. He also leaves behind cherished aunts Bonnie Matz and Marianne (Perry) Theix, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Bessette; his stepmother, Dorothy Bessette; his stepfather, William Northcott; grandparents; Aunt Jane Maki and Uncle David Zeinert.
