Carol Ann Hettinga

Carol Hettinga, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in the loving care of her daughter and staff at the Aspirus Hospice House.

Carol was born in Wausau on December 21, 1940, to William and Florena Heidemann. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1960 and married Roland Hettinga on April 17, 1964. Together, they built a life in Schofield, raising their three daughters and sharing 52 years of marriage before Roland’s passing in 2016.

As her children grew, Carol worked part-time in the community and later provided childcare in her home.

Carol’s greatest joy was her family, but she also lived a life full of simple pleasures - time at the family cabin, fishing, bowling and dart leagues, Friday afternoons playing cards at Schofield City Hall, and trips to the casino.

Carol is survived by her 3 daughters, Sherri Crawford of Auburn, WA, Cindy (Russell) Schilling of Marathon, WI, and Connie (Andrew) Heise of Wausau, WI; three grandchildren, Cameron Schilling, Brooke and Alivia Heise; and sister-in-law, Marcia Keck of Loris, SC.

In addition to her parents, Carol was reunited in heaven with her husband, Roland Hettinga; son-in-law, Richard Crawford; brothers, David (Jean) Heidemann and Willis (Betty) Heidemann; sister, Elaine (Donald) Utecht; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry (Judy) Hettinga, Morris Keck.

Carol will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness, and the many simple moments she shared with those around her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bell Tower, Aspirus at Home Hospice, and Aspirus Hospice House for the wonderful care she received in her final years.

A celebration of life for Carol will be held this summer.
