David Lee Herrmann, age 72, of Park Falls, Wisconsin, passed away on October 19, 2025. He was born on November 6, 1952, in Rock Island, Illinois, to the late John and Betty Herrmann.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from July 31, 1974, to July 30, 1978, and was honorably released from the Reserves on May 19, 1980. After his military service, he pursued higher education, earning both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.
David built a long and successful career as an engineer at Raytheon, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Never one to stop learning or sharing his knowledge, he began a second career as a teacher in the state of Alaska, becoming certified to teach business and engineering to students in grades 7–12.
In 2010, David accepted his first teaching position in Savoonga, Alaska, on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. It was there that he met Sonia, his future wife and teaching colleague. The two taught together in Savoonga for three years before continuing their teaching careers in other Alaskan communities, including Golovin and later Elim. In 2021, David and Sonia moved to Park Falls, Wisconsin, where Sonia accepted a teaching position and they continued their adventures together.
David will be remembered for his love of the outdoors — he found joy in biking, hiking, and kayaking, and his enthusiasm for nature was contagious. Those who knew him will remember his intelligence, gentle humor, and generous spirit.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sonia; siblings Albert, Edward (Susan), Valerie Foster, Terresa Lang (Julian), and Carl (Diane); sisters-in-law Adriana Strayer (Tim), Elsa Anderson (Kevin), and Sylvia Rodriguez; son-in-law Dwayne Flowers; and grandchildren Layla, Vivian, Paisley, and Finley. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Flowers; parents, John and Betty Herrmann; brother, Paul Herrmann; father-in-law, Sotero Rodriguez; and sister-in-law, Virginia Andrade.
