DeVern Orlin Nygaard, born on September 26, 1940, in the charming town of Columbus, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Schofield, Wisconsin. He lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering faith that resonated deeply with all who had the privilege to know him.
Throughout his illustrious journey, DeVern earned his Doctor of Divinity, a testament not only to his academic excellence but also to his profound commitment to his spiritual calling. His passion for biblical studies shaped his worldview and guided his daily actions, fostering an environment where love and compassion flourished. An embodiment of familial devotion, he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
DeVern was an individual of diverse talents and interests. He delighted in building model airplanes, showcasing both his creativity and meticulous attention to detail. Leathercraft was another of his cherished pursuits, as he skillfully transformed raw materials into beautiful creations. These hobbies provided him solace and joy, reflecting his artistic spirit and hands-on approach to life.
He leaves behind a devoted family who will carry forward his legacy of love and integrity. His beloved wife of 61 years, Cora Nygaard, stood by his side as a steadfast partner throughout their years together. The warmth of his paternal affection will be profoundly missed by his children: Charles Nygaard, Nancy Nygaard, William Nygaard, and Tyler Nygaard. Each of these individuals carries within them the light and values instilled by DeVern. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his brother, Terry Nygaard, and sister, Corren Petit, whose lives were enriched by his wisdom and kindness.
In the tapestry of life woven with both joyous and sorrowful threads, DeVern's story is illuminated by the memories of his parents, Carl and Cora Nygaard, and his siblings who have passed before him: Muriel Grandrud, Chester Nygaard, and Carole Stollen. A funeral service for DeVern will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church, 6601 Alderson St. Schofield, WI, with Pastor Joe Carlson presiding. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Following the service DeVern will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Kronenwetter.
