Donald Walter Krohn

May 27, 1937 — October 24, 2024

Town of Stettin

Donald Walter Krohn, passed away on October 24, 2024, at his home in the town of Stettin, Wisconsin. He was born on May 27, 1937, in the town of Hamburg, to the late Walter and Mathilda (Voigt) Krohn. Donald married Lyn Montie on September 17, 2005, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Weston.

A dedicated and lifelong construction superintendent, Donald spent over 61 years proudly serving the Carpenter's Union, with his most recent position at Miron Construction. His exceptional craftsmanship can be seen in numerous significant buildings, including the Wausau Library, Wausau West High School, Horace Mann Middle School, Merrill High School, and the Wisconsin Rapids Performing Arts Building, which he considered the most beautiful of his projects. Notably, Donald achieved all of this without the aid of computers, relying solely on blueprints to bring his visions to life.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Donald had a diverse range of interests. He was passionate about fishing, camping, deer hunting, snowmobiling, and enjoyed repairing equipment and welding in his spare time. He also cherished country music and was an avid fan of Clint Eastwood films. In addition to his professional skills, he was a talented cabinet maker and hobby farmer.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Lyn Krohn; children, Karey (Mark) Kramer, Mark (Beth) Krohn, Thad Krohn, and Karla Krohn (Kevin Berger), all of Wausau. He also leaves behind his siblings: Lorraine Melanson and Geneva Weith of Wausau, and Lois (Michael) Fasse of Merrill.  Donald was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren: Leah, Luke, Jessie, Michael, Melissa, Blaine, Klayton, Warren, Alex, Kodi, Roy, Brandon, Britta, Rowan, and Carmin, as well as 19 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.  He is further survived by his “in-laws” Mavis, Allan, Margaret, Linda, and Barbara Schubring.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of their children, Phyllis (Schubring) Krohn, who passed in 2004, and several siblings: LuAnn Ruhbusch, Mavis Schoenherr, Earlin Krohn, Junice Braatz, Layton Krohn, Ardell Koenig, and Ethel Buttke, along with many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson Street, Weston. Pastor Lance Hoelscher will officiate.
