Dorothy Emma Ewan was born Thursday, February 6, 1930, at home, on the Henry and Emma Ewan farm in the Town of Johnson, County Trunk A, near Athens, in Marathon County, Wisconsin, baptized April 6, 1930. She graduated 8th grade from Ladd Country School in 1943, was confirmed from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan the summer of 1943; and attended Athens High School, playing clarinet in the Marching Band. She graduated in 1947 as Salutatorian.

Dorothy was employed as Assistant to Dr. Leonard Wahl, Orthodontist in Wausau from 1947 to 1952. She met her future husband, Paul Otto Ramthun, on a blind date and married April 21, 1951, at Bethlehem Church, Milan. The new Bride and Groom rented an apartment in Rothschild and attended Salem Lutheran Church in Wausau until transferring to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schofield in 1956. She was an active church member at St. Peter, serving on Cradle Roll Committee, Newsletter Helper, and served, baked and cleaned up for many funerals. She also volunteered at Bethesda Lutheran Thrift Shop and supported Dime & Dollar Thrift in Wausau.

In 1953, Paul and Dorothy built their forever home (with help from relatives) on a lot at the edge of town in Rothschild. In 1965, Paul and Dorothy purchased land “up north”, built a cottage in 1966 and spent many enjoyable weekends and vacations there. Dorothy enjoyed embroidery, reading, drapery, sewing, and playing cards and games with neighbors, friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in October 1994; and is survived by three children, Gail J. Krause (Dennis) Greenville, WI, Brian J. Ramthun (Roselyn) Punta Gorda, FL, and Kent A. Ramthun (Tammy) Shakopee, MN. Grandchildren include Chad (Amanda) Ramthun, Monica (Dustin) Braun, Emma (Will) Stelmach, Hannah and Sophia Ramthun. Step-grandchildren are Tim (Kris) Krause, Terry Krause, Tammy Fredrick (fiancé Toni), and Toby (Laura) Krause. Great-grandchildren include Kasey and Logan Ramthun, Braeden and Braxten Braun. Step Great-grandchildren are Morgan and Mitch Krause and Max Fredrick. Her remaining sister, Dolores Schmidt, lives in Athens where many nieces and nephews remain.

Visitation for this wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Neighbor will be held Friday September 6, 2024, at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1351 Gand Avenue in Schofield, WI from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Kevin Schnake. A luncheon will follow the service at St. Peter. With the joy of seeing her Savior in Heaven, Dorothy will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park next to her husband following the luncheon. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society or House of the Dove, Hospice in Marshfield.
