Gene Robert Emmerich

Gene Robert Emmerich, 71, lovingly known as "Doc", passed away unexpectedly at his home in the Village of Maine on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Gene was born on October 5, 1954, to Lester and Erna (Bungert) Emmerich in Wausau. Gene was an award-winning quilter who enjoyed crafting beautiful quilts for family, friends, and his collection. Moreover, he did needlepoint and loved making candy to bring to work. He participated in many bowling tournaments in Merrill and Reno. He was happiest in his greenhouse at home, gardening and planting flowers. 

Gene is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Emmerich; mother, Erna Emmerich; siblings, Linda (Christopher) Nikolai, Jackie (Randy) Woldt, Scott Emmerich, Tom (Sherrie) Emmerich, Patti (Pat) Champine, and James (Diane Fischer) Emmerich; as well as many nephews, nieces, and godchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester.

In honor of Gene's wishes, private services are being held.
