Gregory S. Ashton

November 14, 1953 — December 13, 2024

Wausau

Gregory Scott Ashton, 71, of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully at his home on December 13, 2024. Born on November 14, 1953, to Phylis and Charles Ashton in Boulder Junction, WI, Greg always held a deep connection to the Northwoods. He graduated from Wausau High School and later moved to Arizona, where he lived for several years before returning to Wausau, which remained his home until his passing.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Ashton; his children, Mikaela Zuelsdorff, Naomi (Sasha) Wisnewski, Natasha (CJ) Sterzinger, Melissa (Nick) Schafer, and Ashley (Nathen) Kirchner; and his cherished grandchildren, Kassidy, Karli, Nolan, Levi, Morgan, Erica, Cecilia, Estella, and Nathaniel. He is also survived by his sisters, Lynn (Bill) Spindler and Sue (Tom) Stefonik, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He also shared meaningful relationships with his previous partners, Kay Zuelsdorff and Karen Stevenson

Greg spent much of his career working for Gordon Aluminum and later Crystal Finishing before retiring. A lover of the outdoors and sunshine, he found joy in kayaking, exploring nature, and soaking up the beauty of the world around him. Greg had a passion for the blues, savoring breakfast outings, and going shooting with his close friend, Doug. Though a lifelong “cat man,” he found a best pal in his dog, Loki, who brought him endless joy.

Known for his sharp sarcastic wit and dry sense of humor, Greg had a way of making an impression on everyone he met. Though not one to show warmth in traditional ways, he had a unique way of expressing pride in the accomplishments of those he cared about, always leaving you certain of his support. An avid reader and a man of depth, Greg’s presence and one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed.

And in closing, to quote the man himself:

“With a smile on my face and a song in my heart, I intend to keep moving forward.”

And so too shall we.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held at this time. The family will reach out with plans during warmer weather.

Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Weston, is assisting Greg’s family. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
