On Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, our father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away unexpectedly.
Greg was born on September 7th, 1947, in Hurley, WI, to George B. Wallis and Mary Lou Lopez. He grew up in Hurley, attended South Side Grade School and graduated in 1966 from Hurley High School.
Right after graduation, Greg enlisted in the US Navy where he served 16 years. During his service, he toured Vietnam three times on the USS King in the Gulf of Tonkin and then transferred to the USS Cory. After serving his sea time, he was stationed in Philadelphia, PA, and was a Master at Arms in Great Lakes, IL for his last five years where he was medically discharged with a rank of OS1. After retirement, he attended Northland College in Ashland, WI, graduating with an associates degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
In 1967, He married the love of his life, Sharon A. Roberts. Together they had 4 children, Dawn, Greg, Diane, and Scott.
Greg loved many things in his life; hunting and fishing were among his passions during his time on leave and would meet up in Hurley with his brother, his dad, cousins, uncles, and many others. After he moved to Wausau in 2000, he worked as a chef at multiple places and was responsible for the opening of and running many kitchens. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends at our get togethers. Mosty recently, Greg was involved in the farmers market in Weston, WI, and the Edgar Steam Show with his good friend, Scott Borchardt. He was also the Grand Master of the Wet Willy Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his three children, Dawn (John) Munda, Greg and (Abby) Wallis, and Diane (Lloyd) Jacobson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sister, Betty Ann of Hurley.
Greg was preceded in death by his son Scott Kevin; parents, George and Mary Lou; his brother, George Jr.; and many other family members.
Per our dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a burial in Hurley, WI will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Veterans.
