Jack Neuens, age 81, of Wausau, a cherished soul loved for his vibrant spirit and unforgettable humor, passed away on January 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy woven into the hearts of his family and friends.
Born on April 4, 1944, in Athens, Wisconsin, the son of James and Frances (Scheffler) Neuens. His life was a rich tapestry of laughter, love, and service to others. Jack married the love of his life Mary Ann Westphal on September 17, 1966, and the couple enjoyed nearly 60 years of wonderful marriage together. Jack and Mary Ann spent the majority of their married life living in Edgar for over 34 years. He also was very proud of being a part of many different choirs, starting back in 5th grade and going forward to singing in the church choir as well. He also loved to give a helping hand by volunteering at the welcoming center and various prayer groups at church.
Jack dedicated a significant portion of his working life to roles at Marathon Cheese, Conagra, and ultimately Menzner Lumber, from where he retired. His contributions were not limited to his professional endeavors; they mirrored his beliefs in hard work and community spirit, values that he instilled in his loved ones. Jack’s joy in life resonated profoundly beyond the workplace; it flourished in the gardens he nurtured, in the card games that brought friends together, and in the homemade birthday cards he lovingly crafted for his family.
With an ardent passion for gardening and puzzles, Jack found solace and joy in tending to his plants and soaking up the peacefulness of nature. Yet it was his playful sense of humor and penchant for practical jokes that truly defined him, traits he carried gracefully even through his final moments. Up until the very end, he mastered weaving laughter into the fabric of each day, leaving a trail of joy that will be remembered fondly.
Jack took immense pride in his family, who were his greatest joy. Survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Neuens, and his children, Barb (Tim) James, Dan (Christine) Neuens, Michelle (Tim) Dahlke, Sarah (Dave) Stenberg, Angie (Thad) Jones, and Jonathan (Sarah) Neuens, and sister Carol (Rod) Westphal, he often recounted stories of their adventures together. Jack rejoiced in the company of his grandchildren: Jessie, Mindy, Zachary, Ashley, Alexandra, David, Nate, Kaytlyn, Stevie, Roscoe, Cindy, Isaac, Cameron, and Devin, as well as his great-grandchildren, Izzy, Henry, and Holly. Each moment spent with them was a treasure, filled with laughter and love, which is how he will remain etched in their memories.
While his family thrived around him, Jack also held dear the memory of those who departed before him, including his parents, James and Frances Neuens, as well as his daughter, Jenny Hack, and son, Tony Neuens. Reflecting on his siblings, Dorie, Geri, Jim, Marge, and Joyce will forever echo in the stories shared amongst those he loved, creating a reverberation of family unity that will endure.
As we gather to celebrate Jack's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 229 S. 28th Ave. Wausau, WI 54401, at 12:00 PM Noon, with The Very Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk celebrating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of mass at 12:00 PM Noon. Jack will be laid to rest at the Edgar Cemetery at a later date.
Let us remember him warmly, sharing tales of his laughter and kindness, honoring a remarkable man who embraced life with open arms and a heart full of love. Jack's spirit, richly infused with the warmth of family and friends, will always remind us of the joy that comes from laughter, love, and service to others.
