Jim Wenzel, age 79, of Weston, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center - Weston, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on April 25, 1947, in Wausau, Wisconsin, the son of Glenn and Leatrice (Poeske) Wenzel. He proudly served his country in the National Guard, a commitment that underscored his deep sense of duty and patriotism. Beyond his military service, he was devoted to his local community, contributing his leadership as a Village Trustee for the Village of Weston a role he held with dedication and pride.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim found great joy in hunting and fishing, and cherished time spent at his second home on the lake up north in St. Germain. The natural world was a sanctuary for him, where he could embrace peaceful moments and create lasting memories. He was also a passionate sports fan, delighting in cheering for Wisconsin’s beloved teams: the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks.

Jim’s warm and approachable nature made it easy for him to connect with others; he could hold a conversation with anyone, whether a longtime friend or a stranger. Jim sold plywood and ran propane deliveries, which he was excellent at because of his ability to communicate and talk with anyone. Above all, he treasured spending time with his parents, whose memory he deeply honored throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter Lynn (Tim) Halambeck; son Brad (Sarah) Wenzel; sister Sue Garnsworthy; and grandchildren Megan Halambeck, Benjamin Halambeck, Andrew Wenzel, and Dillon Morrisey. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Stan Garnsworthy.

The community and loved ones remember Jim as a man whose integrity, kindness, and vibrant personality touched many lives. As we reflect on his life, we hold dear the moments shared and the legacy he leaves behind a legacy rooted in service, family, and a passion for life.

A private family service will be held. Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
