Jami Marie Grall

March 23, 1976 — July 16, 2025

Wausau

Jami Marie Grall was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her — always wearing a smile, no matter the storm she faced.

Jami was born in Parker, South Dakota, where she spent most of her childhood, before moving to Medford, Wisconsin, where she spent her teenage years. While living in South Dakota, Jami was raised on a pig farm. It was there that she learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and compassion — especially for the tiniest of creatures, as she lovingly cared for the runts of every litter. When she wasn’t helping on the farm, Jami was outside, exploring the woods or playing sports. She had a unique hobby: snake hunting — just one example of her adventurous spirit, which never faded. Whether she was competing in the Combined Locks “Light Those Lights” Softball Tournament, running the Chicago Marathon, or road-tripping across Wisconsin to cheer on her sons, Jamison and Kaden, at basketball games, Jami lived life with energy and joy.

At age 14, Jami and her family made their final move — just two weeks before her freshman year of high school in Medford. Luckily, she already had her driver's license, which quickly transformed her from “the new girl” into “the cool girl.” That freedom was short-lived, thanks to Wisconsin’s licensing rules — but by the time she could legally drive again, she no longer needed a booster seat, a fact she would have joked about with a grin.

Jami had an undeniable passion for music. From Eminem to Katy Perry to whatever was topping the charts, her kitchen was often filled with impromptu dance parties — especially with her boys. The sound of their laughter was music to her ears.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from UW–Eau Claire and began her career teaching at Janssen Elementary in Kimberly, Wisconsin. After earning her master’s degree, she transitioned into school leadership, becoming principal of Westside Elementary and then Beaumont Elementary. Jami had a remarkable gift: she knew every student’s name — and their parents’ and siblings’, too. The night before each school year, she would walk through the halls, taking in the anticipation and hope that filled each classroom. While she was a dedicated and beloved principal, her greatest passion was always teaching. She believed deeply in the goodness of every child, no matter what their circumstances.

Family meant everything to Jami. She treasured trips back to South Dakota to visit her aunts, uncles, and cousins. A true sun goddess, she found peace and renewal on Florida’s beaches, often saying, “the sun does my soul good.”

Jami is survived by her two beloved sons, Jamison and Kaden Grall; her parents, Laurie and Wally Meyer; her brothers, Jeremy (Kimberly) Meyer and Joe (Leslie) Meyer; and her cherished nephew and niece, Jett and Luca Meyer. She is also remembered with love by her special friend, Steve Kmosena, and her trusted co-parent and friend, Sam Grall. Countless aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues will miss her dearly.

To know Jami was to love her. She touched so many lives with her warmth, humor, strength, and heart. Now, may she rest — free from pain and forever in our hearts.

Fly free, Jami. You are finally at peace.

A celebration of Jami's incredible life is being planned. Service information will be provided at a later date.
