Janet Rae Hilber

Janet Rae Hilber, 73, of Wausau, passed away the morning of Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, following a brief illness.

Janet was born one of 13 children to the late Raymond and Lillian (Pophal) Zunker on August 28, 1953. She grew up on the Zunker family farm in Wausau, where she would later return and raise her family: Travis, Heather, and Christina.

Those who knew Janet remember her fondly for her lovingly stubborn personality and for her generosity in putting others before herself. Janet loved spending quality time with her family, which in turn leaves them with many cherished memories. From her homemade meals to her Christmas cookies and popcorn balls, Janet showed her love for her family and friends from her heart and her own hands. A skilled gardener, Janet spent many seasons growing vegetables and rhubarb and was known for her homemade applesauce, dill pickles, and canning anything from her garden.

Janet also spent quality time having fun and doing the things she loved. You could often find her on a trip to the casino and playing bingo, or watching the Green Bay Packers. She especially loved going to church, where on Sunday mornings her car radio was tuned to Polka music. Above all, her greatest source of love and enjoyment was in her family, whom she loved more than words can express.

Janet is survived by her children, Travis Wimmer, Heather Wimmer, and Christina (Tom Moffat) Wimmer; grandchildren, Samantha Feigley and Casie Feigley; step-grandchildren, Zach Moffat and Amanda Moffat; and great-grandson, River Feigley. She is further survived by seven sisters, Patti Kufahl, Sandy Burger, Darlene Pupp, Nancy Rodemeier, Darsi Baumann, Debbie Zunker, and Shari Whitney; four brothers, Ronald “Laura Dulin” Zunker, Gene Zunker, Kenny Zunker, and Roger Zunker; as well as many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hilber; and sister, Donna Baumann.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Avenue, Weston, WI 54476.
