He attended St. Paul’s School in Mosinee, St. Mary’s School in Marathon, and graduated from Marathon High School in 1963. John served in the United States Army beginning August 12, 1965, where he served in Vietnam at the rank of SP4 until being honorably discharged in 1967.
Following his military service, John began working with Crestline Company in Wausau, which was then purchased in 1981 by Sentry Insurance along with the Vetter Company in Stevens Point, giving it the name SNE. In 1991, the company moved to Mosinee, and in 2001, it was again sold to the Weather Shield Company. He continued to work for the company in Mosinee until his retirement in 2007, accomplishing 40 years of service.
John was a member of the American Legion Roy L. Drew Post 492 in Rothschild. He was on a pool league with the 19th Hole in Schofield and enjoyed watching old western TV shows. He was also a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and enjoyed NASCAR. John made many new friends after moving to Renaissance Assisted Living in March 2024, joining with others in the many activities offered, such as bingo, happy hour, listening to musicians, and occasional trips to the casino.
