Karen Janikowski

September 17, 1950 — August 7, 2026

Pelican Lake

Karen Janikowski (née Kent), age 75, of Pelican Lake, Wisconsin, passed away on August 7, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Karen was born on September 17, 1950, in Wausau, the daughter of Delmer and Delores (Rhyner) Kent.

Karen graduated from D.C. Everest in 1969 and married the love of her life, Gary Janikowski, on September 30, 2007. The couple enjoyed 21 years together.

After Karen retired from her 31-year career at Marathon Electric, Karen and Gary moved to Hudson, Florida. Karen spent her days enjoying the sunshine, tending to her flowers, and fishing with Gary on the Gulf. She really treasured the times when her grandkids would come and visit and swim in their pool. The family would share stories over a family meal, often Karen’s specialty, a Wisconsin-style fish fry with potatoes, and of course, a cold Leine’s Creamy Dark beer.

In 2019, they moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family and bought a home in Pelican Lake, Wisconsin. Karen and Gary loved the northwoods and enjoyed fishing and watching the many birds and wildlife in the area.

Karen is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Season (Joe) Schmitz; stepdaughter, Jamie (Shilo) Tennyson; and grandchildren, Isaac, Aidan, Eli, Shawn, and Leo. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Kent, and nieces, Jennifer and Amy. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Kent.

Per Karen's wishes, no formal services will be held.

Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
