Kathleen Ann Hauer

November 8, 1941 — January 31, 2025

Wausau

Kathleen Ann Hauer, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully with family at her side on January 31, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on November 8, 1941, in Rushford, MN, to the late Norman and Grace (Smith) Berg.

After graduating high school in Rushford, Kathy pursued her passion for education at the University of Winona, where she earned a degree in teaching physical education. This foundational experience led her to Wausau, WI, where she began her teaching career at Wausau East High School. Over the course of her 20-year teaching career, Kathy not only educated numerous students, but also coached track and volleyball, leaving a lasting impact on her community. She later worked as an office assistant at Poland Chiropractic until her retirement. She embraced life outside of her career with great enthusiasm, enjoying golf, watching classic movies, and sharing joyful moments over fish fries and happy hour with family and friends. Her loyalty and love extended to her feline companion and "baby boy," Shadow. Kathy was also a member at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish in Wausau.

Kathy's journey included two significant marriages. She first married George Meuret on January 2, 1965, who preceded her in death on October 31, 1986. Later, she found love once more with Daniel Hauer, whom she married on April 23, 1993, until his passing on June 2, 2018.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Alison (Lenny) Hafeman and Lisa (Jerry) Han; her cherished grandchildren, Casey (fiancé Nick) Hafeman, Courtney (Nick) Gore, and Izzy Han; brother, George (Judi) Berg; as well as many dear great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

She is further survived by stepchildren, Peter (Jill) Hauer, Paula (Ed) Meadows, Phillip Hauer, Perry Hauer, Patrick (Junice) Hauer, and Paul (Kathy) Hauer and their children, Matthew (Heather Larson) Grieb, Jesse (Natay) Grieb, Melissa Rice, Micaela (fiancé Ian) Hauer, Kayla (Derrick) Hollingshead, Stephanie Hauer, Josh (Caitlin) Van Hauer, Sharon (Xavier) Garcia, and Steven Fenn. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; spouses, George and Daniel; grandson, Dustin Charneski; and brother, Robert Ingram.

She will be deeply missed by her loving family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
