Larry Kufahl

August 30, 1941 — April 11, 2026

Wausau

Larry Irven Kufahl went home to be with the Lord on the morning of April 11, 2026. Larry was a faithful servant who loved the Lord with all his heart and was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. Larry was born on August 30, 1941, the 3rd oldest child to Irven & Dorothy Kufahl, and was 84 years old.

Larry met the love of his life when he was 26 years old through his church youth group. He knew on their first date that he would marry Patti. From an early age, Larry knew he wanted a wife and children. During his college and Army years, when he had not yet met the right person, Larry would say that God knew what He was doing, "I have someone for you; you just need to wait and be patient. She is not ready yet.” Larry and Patti were married on August 10th, 1968, and shared a truly blessed marriage for 57 years. By the way they looked at one another, cared for each other, showed affection, and always put each other first, you knew their marriage was something truly special.

As a father, Larry was beyond measure—a loving and devoted Dad who would do anything for his children, setting a beautiful example of how to live life and be thankful in all situations.

Larry had an engineering mind in all things. He graduated from UW–Stout at the top of his class. This led to his vocational passion of design and mechanical engineering which he used while working at Marathon Electric. After retiring, Larry continued doing what he loved by starting his own business, Unique Innovations, where he designed and built industrial automation machines. There was not a problem Larry could not solve with a little ingenuity and hard work.

Larry enjoyed, above everything, spending time with his family – he always said how thankful he was that we all lived so close. He also enjoyed working in his garage, gardening and landscaping, riding his motorcycle in his younger years, volunteering at church, and helping Patti create many beautiful church banners. He also always enjoyed a good glass of room temperature root beer. Larry could fix or build almost anything imaginable. He was extremely talented at repairing salvaged vehicles and always lovingly spoiled Patti by giving her his newest vehicle to drive. Larry had a beautiful voice and loved singing for special church events, weddings and funerals, and with the Barber shoppers. As his family grew, Larry especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and would sometimes want to “try out” their sport and find a way to be involved. The kids loved that every visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s always ended with a big goodbye wave from the window—a small tradition filled with so much love.

Larry was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Wausau, also where he married Patti. When “Little Trinity” closed, they were blessed to become members at Christ Lutheran Church where they were lovingly welcomed by their new church family.

Larry lived a full and blessed life. During Sunday family gatherings, he could often be heard saying,

“You can’t comprehend how much I love my family,” and we would always respond, “We know Dad—and we love you too, so much.”

Until we see you again
