Wausau

Lori Jane Steinke, 64, of Wausau, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Lori was born on February 13, 1962, in Wausau, to Ernest and Verona (Obernberger) Steinke.

Lori worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years, caring for patients in Surgery, Oncology, Home Health, Short-Term Rehab, Clinic Management, Memory Care, Hospice, and Home Health Care. Notably, she worked for GI Associates in Wausau, where she was instrumental in the development of the endoscopy center. She loved a challenge and took pride in her ability to care for others. She loved her profession and the many co-workers along the way.

Lori’s interests included crafting, any outdoor summer sport, and she especially loved going to her grandsons' sporting activities. She loved making things for others and giving - just because. She also had a love for music, often listening to Prince, Journey, Aerosmith, and more. Lori had many unwavering friendships and special bonds with countless memories from over the years. She also loved animals and had 3 cats, one surviving - her special emotional support cat, Lucy.

Lori is survived by her children, Jerry Robert Klemp, Amanda Rae (Klemp) Burtch (Matt) (their father, Jerry A Klemp), and Katrina Ann Raskie (Nik Watral); one grandson, Levi John Dahl (Alex), and one granddaughter, Kennedy Alice Burtch. She is further survived by her mother, seven sisters, aunt and uncle, as well as many cousins. Lori is preceded in death by a son, Dallas James Raskie (Steve); Steve M. Raskie; her father, Ernest Steinke; former mother-in-law, Alice Klemp; and numerous loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. and cousins.

No formal services are being held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for support, causes special to Lori, and for her grandchildren.

Lori believed we should all be kind, compassionate, and inquisitive, as you never know what any person, at any time, is going through. She would want us to stay present, to listen, to give loved ones and strangers an empathetic ear, and for us all to share meaningful time with those we love.

Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
