Mark E. Lyon, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, Wisconsin.
He was born on January 26, 1948, in Wausau, Wisconsin, son of the late Lewis and Loretta (Stieber) Lyon. He was married to Barb (Tratz) Lyon for 27 years until her passing in 2016.
Mark’s military service is a distinguished chapter of his life. He began his honorable service in 1967, by joining the United States Marines during the Vietnam Era. Throughout his tenure, he earned several significant accolades, including the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his time in the Marines, Mark continued serving his country by transferring to the Wisconsin Army National Guard, dedicating an additional 20 years to military service. His commitment and valor stand as testament to his character and sense of duty.
Beyond his military career, Mark was a long and short haul truck driver. He also served on the Rothschild Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Most recently, he devoted himself to caring for the greens as a lawn caretaker at Tribute Golf Course in Wausau, a role that allowed him to merge his love of golf with rewarding work.
Mark was greatly involved in the Man of Honor Society, finding joy especially in their annual picnic and golf outing. Golf was his favorite pastime, and he was an active member of a league at Rib Mountain Golf Course for many years. His enthusiasm extended to dabbling in RC planes and drones, enjoying the thrills of the National Hot Rod Association, and bowling in earlier years. Mark cherished casino trips with his Army friends and enjoyed bow hunting. A passionate sports fan, he delighted in cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin Badgers, and watching NASCAR races.
He is survived by his two daughters, Traci (Dan) Behrens of Rothschild, and their children, Danielle Behrens of Rothschild, Austin (Allie) Behrens of Savage, Minnesota, and Bryce (Alivia Garnes) Behrens of Queen Creek, Arizona; and Vicki Scheibe of Weston; step-children, Trisha (Jody) Wanta of Wittenberg and Amy Tratz of Wausau; sister-in-law, Ruth Lyon, along with many step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Geraldine (Walter) Voight, Don Lyon and his daughters Laurie Ellis and LouAnn Gille; and his brother Stan (Jan) Lyon.
