Mary Boruta

December 27, 1961 — February 24, 2026

Arbor Vitae

Mary (McLeod) Boruta, age 64, of Arbor Vitae, WI passed away on February 24, 2026, in Wausau, WI surrounded by her loved ones. Mary was born on December 27, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Donald and Mary. Mary’s early years were spent alongside her siblings, Judy, John, Paul, and her late brother, Donald.

On August 15, 1987, Mary married the love of her life, Michael Boruta, in Chicago. Together, they shared over 38 years of marriage, marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering bond. Their enduring partnership is a testament to their commitment to one another and their family. Together, they raised three sons—Patrick, Joseph, and James—in a home filled with warmth, humor, and the occasional misadventure often resulting in some busted drywall. Their long-time home on Lowden Lane was often filled with friends and family as the doors and refrigerator were always open to anyone who wanted to visit.

Mary’s professional journey restarted after years at home raising her children. She spent over 25 years at The Randhurst Home Depot in Mount Prospect where she was known for her unwavering dedication to her customers and the genuine friendships she cultivated with her coworkers. Her infectious and voluminous laughter and warm smile were the constants that brightened the days of those around her. Her commitment to the store and the community they served was no more evident than her longtime participation in The Kid’s Workshop and the numerous store events she participated in and organized.

Outside of work, Mary was a woman of diverse interests and passions. She was an avid gardener, finding peace and joy in nurturing her plants, flowers and vegetables. Her role as a devoted hockey mom saw her cheering passionately from the stands of rinks across the Midwest and Canada, supporting her three sons with unyielding enthusiasm and love.

Mary also cherished her role as an expert Harley passenger, sharing countless adventures with her beloved Michael on the open road. After a long and prosperous life raising children and working in the Chicagoland area, Mary and Mike retired to a home in Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin. There they enjoyed new adventures and friendships in the tranquility of the Northwoods.

Mary was a woman who truly knew how to celebrate life. Her love for parties and family gatherings was unmatched, and her presence was always the center of any occasion. Her legacy of joy, kindness, and hospitality will live on through her surviving family: her devoted husband, Michael; her sons and their spouses, Patrick and Deanna, Joseph and Hillary, and James and Lisa; her three siblings Judy, John, and Paul; and her eight treasured grandchildren, Scarlet, Olivia, Donavon, Lena, Zinnia, Grey, Luke and Joseph and sixteen nieces and nephews each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Donald McLeod and Mary and John Schwartz, and her brother, Donald.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at The Red Barn, 303 E. Kensington Road, Mount Prospect, IL 60056, from 1-6 PM, where all who knew her can come together with food and drinks and share in the joy of her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to instead contribute to a scholarship fund in Mary’s name that will support students attending Harper College in Palatine, IL; the Mary Boruta Endowed Scholarship.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by endless gardens and the laughter of those she loved.
