Mavis Lahti

Mavis Lahti, 88 years old, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 28, 2026, at her home, under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

She was born August 4, 1938, to the late Arthur and Emma (Herlevi) Mandelin.

Mavis attended Iron Belt High School. After graduating, she lived and found a job in Milwaukee doing office work. She met Melvin Lahti at a dance at the Iron County Fair, and they were married on May 14, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Mavis was a homemaker while her daughters were young, and then worked out of the home as a secretary. She was active in her church, attended Bible studies, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Midway Homemakers. She loved crafting and cross-stitched many keepsakes for her family.

Mavis loved being a grandma. She spoiled all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with back scratches, her famous banana bread, and reading books. She had a quiet strength and was gentle and kind. She loved watching the Packers and enjoyed music.

Mavis is survived by her daughters, Jill Lahti and LuAnn Sanders, both of Wausau; grandchildren, Mark (Stevi) Plath, Derek (Daley) Lahti, Melinda (Dan) Arnold, Kara Sanders, Molly (Diana) Sanders, Bria Sanders, Stephen (Hallie) Reynolds, and Dylan Reynolds; sister-in-law, Jeanette Mandelin; and great-grandchildren, Eliana, Eli, Luci, Rylan, Emalyn, Owen, Quinn, and Miles. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; daughter, Laura Reynolds; son-in-law, Ted Sanders; and brothers, Milton, Clyde, Roland, and Bruce Mandelin.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Avenue, Weston, WI 54476. Pastor Lance Hoelscher will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Ascend. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, Saxon.
