Paul Karl Csencsics, 77, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Born on January 30, 1949, in Wausau, WI, Paul lived a life rich with dedication, humor, and kindness.
Growing up in Wausau, Paul was known early on for his athletic talents. He was an incredible swimmer and cross-country runner during his time at Wausau Senior High School. His first job was a lifeguard at the McDonald Pool in the summer, which helped him develop his love of water and community. After graduation, from 1968 to 1970, Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Beyond his athletic talents, Paul had many roles throughout his life. He spent 27 memorable years working at "the bowling alley," a place where countless locals came to know him for his kind heart, vast knowledge of the bowling industry, and his quick wit. He then worked for American Welding and Gas for 17 years. This type of dedication to every job he had serves as an incredible example of his work ethic.
Anyone who knew Paul would describe him as joking, kind, and always willing to help others. You might ask him, "How are you doing?" and be on the receiving end of one of his legendary one-liners, like “Are you writing a book? Make me chapter 1." When asking for advice from him, he might respond, “I may not always be right, but I am never wrong." It brought smiles to many faces, whether from his children or strangers he met at the grocery store on Saturday mornings. His life lesson also included the value of hard work and financial responsibility. From little on, the request was to save half of a paycheck, a wisdom that still lives on. These sayings, just like Paul himself, were instantly familiar and warmly comforting.
Additionally, Paul's hobbies and interests included cheering on the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers, playing cribbage, and spending quality time with his beloved dog Annie. Paul and Paulette enjoyed their trips to baseball games to watch their rivals play one another, where Dad's team usually came out with the win. These simple pleasures reflected his kind nature and his love of a competitive game and good company.
He was married to Paulette (Schulz) Csencsics for almost 48 years. Together, they raised three children: Vanessa (Jeffery) Sieg of Bloomer, WI; the twins Ryan Csencsics of Mosinee, WI; and Rob Csencsics of Madison, WI. Paul's pride extended to his grandchildren, Avery and Gage Sieg, and he was equally fond of his grand-dog, Tucker. Four years ago, Paulette convinced Paul to take a trip to the Marathon County Humane Society, where they met Annie. He was instantly won over and knew she was the one. They became best friends by regularly sharing snacks and a recliner together.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul Csencsics; his mother, Delores Csencsics; his sister, Fran Landrath; brother-in-law Darryl Landrath; brother-in-law Larry Newby; step-mother, Ileane Csencsics; and his parents-in-law, Alfred and Norma Schulz.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Comfort Care team at Aspirus for their incredible care and compassion during Paul’s final days. Their kindness provided much comfort to Paul and his family.
A private family service and interment is taking place to honor Paul's wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Marathon County Humane Society in Paul's name.
