Perry Lee Scheel, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on October 28, 2024, at the age of 83 years old. Perry was born July 16, 1941, in Wausau, WI. As a child, he attended Weston School and was taught by his two favorite teachers, Ms. Mary Becker and Ms. Carol Malarkey. Perry was a graduate of DC Everest High School Class of 1959.
Perry served his country honorably in the U.S Navy from 1959-1965, reaching the rank of E-5. He assigned to the National Security Agency in Japan, a role that took him to serve in Vietnam. He later contributed his skills at notable centers, including the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Fort Meade.
Perry married Paulette Meyer on May 27, 1967, at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Schofield.
Perry and Paulette purchased the South Side Motel in Antigo, WI in 1975. They owned and operated the motel until 1988. Before selling the motel, Perry received the Horticulture Award by the Antigo Garden Club. After selling the motel, Perry began his career at Langlade Hospital in 1989 and retired in 2015.
Perry was an active member in the Antigo Lions Club. Perry had many past times that included reading, bowling, gardening, traveling with his wife Paulette on their many casino adventures. Perry’s biggest passion of all was spending time with his granddaughters. They loved playing cards, especially kings’ corners. Grandpa always said, “Never lay an ace”. On one of the many family trips that was taken, Glacier National Park, we stood on the road to the sun and dad stated, “The lord knew what he was doing when he created this”.
Perry experienced his trip of a lifetime at the Never Forgotten Honor Flight on June 6, 2022. He loved and appreciated all the support that he received. Perry was a proud Republican.
Perry is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Paulette, his daughters, Michele “Mickey”; and Karrie; and son, Brandon. His granddaughters, Mikayla Deisinger (Austin Kosobucki) and Navy Scheel; brothers, Doug (Sally) and Stuart (Charlotte) Scheel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Helen (Heinrich) Scheel, and his cat, Simon.
Perry embraced life with an affection that touched everyone around him.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1351 Grand Avenue, Schofield, WI. Pastor Kevin Schnake will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Perry will be laid to rest in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
