Richard Lee Luetschwager, born on June 4, 1948, in Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at Seasons of Life Hospice surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Richard was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and spent his life working in support of unions first through his time at Wausau Papers and finished his career as an International Union Representative through the United Steelworkers.

Richard married his wife, Lynn, on January 3, 1967, in North Carolina before leaving for his first tour in Vietnam.

Richard's life was marked by his dedicated service to his country, having proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. His military service took him overseas to the Vietnam War, where he exemplified courage and commitment. For his service, Richard earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, a Rifle Marksman ship Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with one star, and the Good Conduct Medal. These accolades reflected his steadfast dedication and honor as a marine.

As a father, Richard was known for his unwavering support and love towards his daughters, instilling in them the values of resilience and determination. His life was a testament to the bonds of family and the importance of community.

Richard was active in his community serving with United Way and spearheading Wheelchair Awareness to ensure people with disabilities have access to their surroundings. He volunteered his time for the yearly Labor Day Parade in Wausau along with causes the Marines held dear.

Once retired, Richard enjoyed going to his property up north, riding his ATV and deer hunting. When in town Richard enjoyed going to his “Coffee Clutch” each morning with his friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lynn Luetschwager; his daughters Tracey Starck (Dion), Tricia Opal, Heidi Condon (Dan), Hildy Cook (Jesse); his grandchildren, Carly Plamann (Andrew), Valerie Condon and TJ Condon. He is further survived by two sisters, Janice Simmons and Mariann Matsche along with their children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Arvilla Luetschwager along with his brother, Sonny Luetschwager.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Avenue, Weston, WI. Father Samuel Martin will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter, where military honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post 10 Honor Guard of Wausau.

Richard Lee Luetschwager will be remembered not only for his valor and service but also for the warmth and strength he brought to his family and friends. His legacy will live on through the love and memories shared by those who were fortunate to know him.
