Richard Petzke, age 60, of Wausau, Wisconsin, a cherished husband, beloved father, and devoted brother, passed away on January 31, 2026, at Aspirus Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 17, 1965, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Dick and Diana (Biegel) Petzke. Richard lived a life filled with laughter, love, and a profound commitment to his family and friends.
As an HR recruiter by profession, Richard was known for his infectious personality and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His colleagues and clients alike were touched by his funny, outgoing, and caring nature. He dedicated himself not only to his work but to building meaningful relationships that extended beyond the office.
Richard took great pride in his personal achievements, including his role as Vice President of membership for the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc., There he was a member for 45 years and shared his passion for fishing and the great outdoors. He found joy in hunting and was an avid card player, often rallying friends and family around the poker table for an evening filled with competition and camaraderie.
Family was at the heart of Richard's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Hoerter-Petzke, who was his partner through all of life's adventures. He was a devoted step-father to Rylan (Miranda) Hoerter and Cailee Hoerter, and a proud grandfather to Ryder, Harrison, Theo, and Gabriel. Each of his grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the time spent creating memories with them. His faithful companion Buck, our Labrador Retriever will always be looking for him to come home.
Richard is also survived by his sisters, Michelle (William) Morse, Colleen (Todd) Dorman, and Nicole (Matt) Moskaluk, as well as his brother, Robert (Daelyn) Petzke. Each sibling brought unique joy and companionship to his life, and the bond they shared will forever be a testament to his loving nature. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, who instilled in him the values of kindness and resilience. Their love and teachings lived on in Richard, shaping him into the incredible person he became.
