On her 86th birthday, August 21, 2025, Roberta McCabe went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Roberta's life was one built on faith, love, and service to others. Born on August 21, 1939, she grew up with a heart for children and spent her career doing what she loved most - caring for them. For many years, she worked as a preschool director in Indiana, where her kindness, patience, and steady presence touched the lives of countless families. Even after leaving that role, she opened her own home as a daycare, creating a safe and joyful place where children were cared for as if they were her own.
Above all, Roberta loved her family deeply. She was the devoted wife of the late James McCabe, and the proud mother of Jaymi Hughes, Timothy McCabe (Kari), and Michael McCabe (Buffie). She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Thomas McCabe, and granddaughter, Megera, whom she now rejoins in Heaven. Her greatest joy was being "Nanny," and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren: Chris Gajewski (Brandon), Kelli Hughes, Joshua McCabe, Tekla McCabe, Bryan Austin Elliot, Brian McCabe (Alex), Abigayle McCabe, and Emma McCabe, as well as her great-grandchilren, Zachary, Cayden, and Hannah Gajewski.
Roberta's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She carried it quietly but firmly, showing Christ's love in her words and actions. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and welcome-where cookies were baked, stories were told, and love was never in short supply.
She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the way she lived out her faith each and every day. While she will be deeply missed, her loved ones take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband, her son, and her Heavenly Father.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and CNAs of the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their compassion, care, and support during Roberta's final days.
At Roberta's request, there will be no formal funeral, memorial service, or celebration of life. Any flowers or donations may be sent to the funeral home to be passed along to the family.
Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting Roberta's family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared online at www.ascendweston.org.
