Sara Ann Busby, 74, of Rib Mountain, Wisconsin, and Beaver Island, Michigan, passed away on October 10, 2026. Sara was born to Patrick and Judy (Bills) Coffield on July 6, 1952, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Sara graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and then attended college at Colorado State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She began her career in residential kitchen and bath design in Colorado before eventually returning home to Michigan, where her business grew into Sara Busby Design. She was also deeply involved in the National Kitchen and Bath Association, serving on the executive committee and eventually as president of the organization. Sara’s professional success came with much personal enrichment as she developed many deep friendships with clients and colleagues.
To be closer to her grandchildren, Sara began splitting her time between Wausau and Beaver Island, where she had been a homeowner for many years. Regardless of where she was, Sara loved entertaining. The last to leave the party, and the first to offer to host, Sara had a talent for making events special. Whether it was a holiday, a birthday party (dog or human!), or a football game, if Sara was hosting, you could count on excellent food and creative decor.
Being on the island three to four months a year (sometimes more), was a highlight of Sara’s life. The island, its people, and its traditions were close to her heart. While being a part of island life, Sara worked for the Beaver Island Boat Company and did design work for other residents; she genuinely loved the unique close-knit community. In her final year of life, Sara spent the winter on Beaver Island, which was something she had talked about doing for years.
Sara is survived by her son, Timothy (Dana) Busby; her grandchildren, Anna (14) and Anders (11); her brother, Tim Coffield; her mother, Judy Coffield; her beloved golden retrievers, Lizzie and Cooper, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Patrick Coffield; and her uncle, Herb Bills.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Sara in the summer of 2027 on Beaver Island.
Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
