Sophia "Sophie" Sparhawk, age 80, of Wausau, passed away on September 14, 2026, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.
She was born on January 22, 1946, in East Germany, the daughter of the late Stefan and Antonina (Telczka) Kolubako. Sophie lived most of her life in Sparks, Nevada, before moving back to Wausau nine years ago to be closer to family. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a manager for Greater Nevada Credit Union.
Sophie enjoyed watching PBS, reading on her iPad, and shopping, especially at Costco and Amazon. Her beloved dogs, Grizzly and Tinker, will greatly miss her companionship. She also loved the Sierra Mountains and enjoyed camping and hiking when she was younger. She loved being a grandma!
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Bloom-Crook (Brian) of California; her son, Patrick Sparhawk of Oregon; her grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica) Bloom of Boston and Brittaney Bloom of Texas; her great-grandchildren, Lily Bloom and Violet Bloom; her brother, Steven Kolubako of Wausau; her sisters, Helen (Danny) Allen of Schofield, Chris Peterson of Stoughton, and Barb (Bob) Kowalchyk of Wausau; as well as many nieces and nephews. She shared a particularly special bond with her great-niece, Brooklyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Donne Charles Sparhawk; brother-in-law, Brett Peterson of Stoughton and sister-in-law, Paula Sawyer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Ave., Weston, Wisconsin. Visitation and Service times will be updated shortly.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Aspirus Cancer Center, Dr. Haque, Cody Donald, PA-C, and the staff of Aspirus Hospice House for the compassionate care provided to Sophie.
Sophie, we will miss you dearly. You are now free from pain. With love always, your family.
