Steven H. Nelson

Steven H. Nelson passed away in the comfort of his home in Athens, WI on April 10, 2025, at the age of 69, following a courageous year-long battle with lung cancer.

He was born on August 12, 1955, in Braham, MN, son of the late Clifford and Mary Lou (Ames) Nelson. On May 22, 2021, Steven celebrated his marriage to Pensri (Keerisri) Nelson in the town of Rib Lake.

He was a dedicated truck driver who took great pride in driving his own truck, relishing the freedom that came with being on the road. His love for travel was particularly evident in the trips he took out west, especially to Washington and Oregon, often accompanied by his beloved dogs. Steven was a meticulous caretaker of his truck, often enjoying the hands-on work of maintaining and repairing it himself.

Some of his hobbies include fishing, farming and tinkering with engines. He had a great love of animals and enjoyed listening to classic rock and country music.

Steven is survived by his wife, Pensri Nelson of Athens; two children, Cindy (Nick) Nachand of Cambridge, MN, and Steven Nelson, Jr. ; step-children, Shannon Poff of Rib Lake and Matt Poff of Monticello, MN; grandchildren, Reese, Ryan, Audrey, Elizabeth, Tiffany, Bradley, Alexis, Ameila, Steven Jr, Riley, Megan, Preston and Josh; three great-grandchildren, Gage, Rayla and Katalina.

Steven is further survived by his siblings: Brian (Mary) Nelson of Stacy, MN; Scott (Kelly) Nelson of North Branch, MN; Linda Waletzgo of Cokato, MN; and Cindy (Jim) Henningfield of Elcho, WI, as well as his beloved dogs, Ozzy, Wicket, and Coco, and cat, Angel. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with other beloved relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerry Nelson; and his son, Rick Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on May 10, 2025, at Ogema Baptist Church, located at W5091 WI-86, Ogema, Wisconsin 54459. Rev. Rodney Price will officiate. Burial will take place at the Athens Cemetery in Isanti, MN. Visitation will be from Noon until the time of service at the church.
