Steven B. Petri, 69, of Weston, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards, Wisconsin under the care of Heartland Hospice.
He was born on July 20, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, son of the late Delmar and Helen (Hotchkiss) Petri. Steven married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Cramer on May 22, 1976, in Milwaukee. Their union spanned nearly 53 years, filled with shared adventures and love. A proud veteran, Steven served honorably in the United States Army from 1976 to 1979, including six months stationed in Germany. His military service was a source of deep pride throughout his life.
As a long-haul truck driver for an impressive 42 years, Steven traveled over two million miles without a single accident, a testament to his skill and dedication behind the wheel. He truly loved being on the road, finding joy in every journey. After returning from Texas in 1989, he devoted 16 years to the city of Wausau, working in various roles within public works.
Steven was known for his vibrant personality — a jokester and captivating storyteller, he brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. At the nursing home, he earned the affectionate nickname “the music man” because of his love for diverse musical styles. Concerts and country festivals were some of his favorite places to create happy memories with his family. Steven cherished traveling across America with Cheryl, delighting in discovering special cafés along the way. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Petri of Weston; three children, Steven (Kerry Martin) Petri, Jr. of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; Shannon (David) Cronce of Wausau; and Jason (Morgan Brace) Petri of Sarasota, Florida; his four grandchildren, Aubrey Anne, Ava Ann, Owen Michael, and Logan Steven. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, including Jessica (Tony) Sun of Dallas, Texas, and his sister-in-law Nga Goodhal of Brownsville, Texas, who was a great help and support during his final months.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Gary, Karen, James, Delmar, and Susan.
A private family service will be held. Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Weston is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.ascendweston.org.
