Sue Strehlow, an embodiment of compassion and vibrancy, passed away on July 18, 2025, in Schofield, Wisconsin at her daughter's home under hospice care. Born on May 29, 1934, in Eau Claire, Sue graduated from the Milwaukee School of Nursing, which shaped her into the proud nurse and spirited individual many came to love and admire. With her maiden name McIntyre, she grew up surrounded by the nurturing embrace of her parents, Franklin and Madeline McIntyre.
Sue moved back to Schofield after graduating school and met Joseph Strehlow and eventually moved to the Madison area where she worked as a RN at St. Mary's Hospital. She spent the next 28 years working on the Psychiatric Unit where she made many special longtime friends. After retiring Sue and Joe moved back to her childhood home in Schofield to be closer to family.
Sue enjoyed swimming at the pool, cross country skiing, playing ping pong with family and friends. She spent most of her summer months up north at her cottage in Rhinelander. There she enjoyed swimming in the lake, long walks, playing cards, listening to music and just relaxing by sitting on the deck looking out onto the lake with family and dear friends. Sue spent winter months in Lake Havasu, Arizona enjoying the nice sunny days. She was also a dog lover, her favorites being golden retrievers.
Throughout her life, Sue was characterized by her outgoing and energetic personality. Her zest for life was reflected not only in her profession as a dedicated nurse but also in her diverse interests. Sue was also a devout fan of the Brewers and Packers, always eager to cheer on her favorite teams with unwavering enthusiasm. Her laughter-filled lunches with her close friends, affectionately known as the "Fab Five," will forever resonate in the hearts of those who enjoyed their time in her effervescent company.
Sue's life was marked by love and care, especially towards her immediate family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Becky (John) Hunsicker, two granddaughters, her many cherished nieces and nephews and great nieces/nephews, who will miss her dearly. They will carry forward her legacy of kindness and support, enriched by the countless memories of joyful moments shared.
The warmth of family interactions, however, is tempered by the loss of those who preceded her. Sue's journey was accompanied by the deep sorrow of losing her beloved husband, Joe Strehlow, her son Andy Strehlow, and her dear sister, Jane Fochs. As her family and friends gather to honor her life, they will be reminded of the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Compassus Home Health Care, her nurse Alice, aide Dawn and Compassus Hospice nurse Roseanne, aide Sharna, TLC aide Megan for their wonderful care and compassion in caring for Sue.
