Listen to Obituary

Susan (Sue or Suzie) Rae Welsh passed away peacefully on Friday December 19th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born in Wausau, WI on December 7, 1938, to the late Ellis and Martha (Butenhoff) Allds.

Shortly after high school, Sue took a job at “Ma Bell” (Bell Systems), where her and a co-worker, Vicki, plotted to leave Wausau and move to California. In the spring of 1960, Sue and Vicki moved to Whittier, California, where she met another Wausau native, William (Bill) Welsh (Vicki’s brother), who after a whirlwind romance she married on June 4th, 1960. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary when Bill passed away in 2020.

Sue was a stay-at-home mom while Bill was in the military. They lived across the world, including California, Guam, Oklahoma, Spain and Germany, while building their family. Soon after Bill and Sue returned to the Wausau area to raise their family in 1973, Sue took a job at Fiskars and worked there until her retirement in 2001.

Sue and Bill lived in Harshaw after they both retired. She loved being in the Northwoods, working in her yard, feeding the birds and walking on her land with the puppies. She very much enjoyed watching any sporting event – especially college women’s basketball, as well as making pies, breads and treats for her family, the church and for the Snowshoe Baseball raffles. Sue loved to spend time spoiling her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, and she especially enjoyed attending their school activities and sports events. Sue loved the monthly get togethers she had with her fellow Fiskars retirees. The friendship she had with them was very precious to her.

Sue is survived by her children Christine (Bryan) Kujawa, John (Karen) Welsh and Douglass (Jennifer) Welsh; eight grandchildren, Sasha (Cory) Kesy, Nicholas (Alicia) Schroedel, Austin (Brianna) Welsh, Chloe & Marcus Welsh, Kailey & Kyle Welsh and Riley Welsh; 12 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Emma & Nora Kesy, Natalie & Adalyn Schroedel, Cameron, Drew & Wade Welsh, and Aspen, Zeppelin, Sonny & Stetson Stimac. Sister-in-laws Virginia Allds, Victoria Welsh & Connie Brzezinski, niece’s Elizabeth (Brian) Marx, and Tiffany (Jeffery) Voigt.

Sue will be greeted in heaven by her husband Bill, their first child, Mark (2013), her brother Ellis Allds, sister Nancy Heiser and brother-in-law Raymond Heiser, parents Ellis and Martha Allds; and parent-in-laws Charlie and Agnes (Franz) Welsh; Nephew Peter Allds, and Niece Johanna (Bud) Palmer. She will also be welcomed home by her fur babies Tug and Louie, and grand puppies Tia, Maddie and Ariel.

Sue was a fiercely independent and strong-willed woman, and we will miss her so much. Her spunky spirit and quick wit were traits that everyone loved about her. A Memorial Service in Sue's honor will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Ave. Weston, Wisconsin, with Pastor Lance Hoelscher officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Sue will be laid to rest with a private interment in June at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw, Wisconsin.

The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Pride TLC and St Croix Hospice. Their dedication to her care and the love that she felt from you was very much appreciated.
