It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Susan L. Woller on July 12, 2025, following a long-battled illness. Amidst our sorrow, we feel great joy knowing she resides in the loving embrace of Jesus.
Susan was born to Rudolph and Lois Schroeppel on March 11, 1956. She was the youngest of six children, with her sister, Esther, and brothers, Leslie, Roy, David, and Roger. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Park, Illinois, where she attended Christian day school and was later confirmed. She graduated from Elmwood Park High School and was able to attend her 50th class reunion. As the Lord called her parents home during her teenage years, Susan was lovingly cared for by her uncle, Ed Polkow.
She attended Concordia College Milwaukee where she met the love of her life, Leon B. Woller. The couple married on May 24, 1980. Susan and Leon spent three years in ministry in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where they welcomed their first son, Jeremy. They continued their service to the Lord in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they welcomed their daughter, Jessica. Life brought them back to Leon’s hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, where their second son, Joshua, was born.
In their early years in Wausau, Susan was a stay-at-home mother who also provided in-home childcare. She loved attending school and church functions and being present for her children’s activities. Susan went on to spend nearly three decades driving a school bus, where she found fulfillment in driving not only school kids, but for many functions to Camp Luther — her favorite place to be with family and friends.
Susan proudly stood by her husband Leon’s side in his business, Rural Insurance and Farm Bureau. She was a joyful presence at June Dairy Breakfasts, Farm-City Dinners, and countless Rural Insurance and Farm Bureau functions. She always looked forward to the annual trips to Door County, especially enjoying the many lighthouses. She enjoyed singing in several church & community choirs, where her love of the Lord shone through.
Susan joyfully took on many roles in her life, but her favorite was Nana to her adoring granddaughters, Zoey, Morgan, Brittany, and Ava. The greatest gift she gave her children and grandchildren was teaching them about the eternal love of Jesus.
Awaiting Susan at the gates of heaven are her father and mother; her sister, Esther (Leonard) Suhr; her brothers, David and Roger; and her uncle, Ed.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Leon; son, Jeremy Woller; daughter, Jessica (Zachary) Lewis; and son, Joshua (Holly) Woller; her grandchildren, Zoey, Morgan, and Ava Lewis, and Britany Woller; her brothers, Leslie and Roy Schroeppel; as well as nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Drive, in Wausau, Wisconsin, on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 6:30 p.m. We invite women to wear hats, as Susan was known as “The Hat Lady” to her church family. Assisting the family with arrangements is Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Weston.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to support the ministry of Susan’s beloved Camp Luther — a place she spent many years experiencing the power of God’s love.
The family extends a special thank you to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Dr. Miles & team, and the amazing staff of the CICU whom we came to know, love, and respect during Susan’s two-month stay.
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
