Thomas J. Knetter passed away on July 2nd, 2026, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and independence.
He was born on December 8, 1949, in Wausau, son of Alex and Alice Knetter.
Tom spent most of his life in Rib Mountain, Wisconsin, before later moving to Schofield. A graduate of Newman Catholic High School, he was known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and straightforward nature.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Tom served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal. His military service was a defining chapter of his life, and he remained deeply proud of his country and his fellow veterans. As a founding member of the Man of Honor Society, he found meaning in recognizing and supporting those who served. One tribute that reflects the values he held dear reads:
“You have served so that others may live. You are a true American Man-of-Honor. The people of the United States are grateful.”
Following his military service, Tom built a career as an independent over-the-road truck driver, spending years navigating highways across the country. He later worked for the Town of Rib Mountain, serving the community he called home for much of his life, before continuing his career with B&K Trucking. He embraced the freedom and challenges that came with life on the road. Among the memories he shared with his family were the occasions when he took his son, Jason, along with him on trucking trips. Though those opportunities were not frequent, they became cherished memories that Jason would carry with him throughout his life.
Tom had a special love for dogs and found great companionship in them over the years, especially his beloved Raven.
Tom is survived by his son, Jason Knetter (Janet Curin); his sisters, Sandy Thompson and Pam (Roger) Norton; his grandsons, Kole (Brandy) Knetter and Karson (Melissa) Knetter; and his great-grandchildren, Mikah, Miley, and Klara. He also leaves behind friends, fellow veterans, and others whose lives crossed his over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Alice Knetter; and his brother, Terrance "Terry" Knetter.
Tom will be remembered for his service to his country, his years spent on the road, his dedication to his work, and the independent spirit that guided him throughout his life. His family and friends will remember him in their own ways and cherish the moments they shared with him.
Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful.
