Wynn O. Jones, 94, passed away on June 10, 2026, at Stonecrest Residence in Wausau, WI.
Wynn was born on March 16, 1932, in Oshkosh, WI, to Gomer “Pappy” D. Jones and Grace “Dot” (Means) Jones. He graduated from Horicon High School and went on to attend Carroll College in Waukesha, WI and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Wynn was also a Korean War Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman based in the Pacific from 1951 to 1953. In May of 2019, he had the privilege of taking the Never Forgotten Honor Flight out of Wausau, WI.
On December 19, 1953, Wynn married Joan A. Knutson. He loved to tell people the story of how they “met.” Joan was one of his sister Jean’s bridesmaids, and he had been assigned to “take care of her.” He would smile and tell people that he never stopped. They were married for 71 years and had three boys: Paris O., Hugh E. and Wynn “Casey” O. Jones, II. Wynn and Joan raised them in Schofield, WI, retired and moved to Rhinelander, WI in 1997 and wintered in Hot Springs Village, AR as “snowbirds” for 30 years. They also really enjoyed travelling. Included in their international adventures were over 25 cruises as well as trips with each of their 6 grandchildren for all their high school graduation presents.
Wynn worked in sales and laboratory design with Milwaukee Equipment Co. for 23 years before becoming their president. In 1982, he started Wynn O. Jones & Associates, Inc., grew it successfully, remained involved until 2002, and his company continues to flourish. He was also very active in the community, including Rotary, elder at First Presbyterian Church of Wausau, WI, member of Village Bible Church, Hot Springs Village, AR, and as a founding member of Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, Schofield, WI. He was a faithful choir member in all the churches he attended.
Family was always very important to Wynn, who was also affectionately called “Taid”, which means grandfather in Welsh. His Welsh heritage was not the only thing that bound the Jones family together. In the 1920s, his father, “Pappy” purchased land on a lake near Rhinelander, WI, where 6 generations have come together over the years, built cottages and homes, and continued family traditions; playing cribbage, picking blueberries, playing kick-the-can, getting thrown in the lake with your clothes on when you turn 12, and getting a silver dollar when you swim the lake’s channel without assistance. Relatives travel to Jones Point from a variety of states for picnics on all three summer holidays, where homemade ice cream is served and the doxology sung, just as it has been for over 100 years.
Wynn loved to work with his hands and was always ready to start or help with a project. He was an outdoorsman who played golf, flew private planes, loved watersports, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also known for always having a Golden Retriever by his side, taking a daily “morning dip” in the lake and playing cribbage with Joanie every night before supper. Wynn made sure to invest time in playing with his grandchildren/great-grandchildren and regularly charted their growth by marking it on a door frame. Most importantly, Wynn was a man of faith and said at his and Joanie’s 50th wedding celebration, “If you have Jesus Christ, you can get through…just anything.”
Remaining to cherish Wynn’s memory are his wife Joan; and their sons, Paris (Lora-jean), Hugh (Diane), and Casey (Cindy) Jones; their grandchildren, Nichole (Scott) Anderson, Gwen (Dan) Rizk, Leah (Jed) Lechleitner, Evan (Christy) Jones, Owen (Jenna) Jones, Bennett (Christina) Jones, and 17 precious great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gomer and Grace Jones; his two sisters, Sue (Bruce) Gohl and Jean Radke; and brother-in-law Tom Radke.
A memorial gathering to celebrate his life on earth and now in Heaven with His Lord and Savior will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, 1806 Weston Avenue, Schofield, WI. Pastors Jim Gates and Larry McKensie will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Military Honors will be accorded immediately following the service, with a luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wynn’s memory can be made to Covenant Community Presbyterian Church.
