Dave Wanta passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Mount View Care Center in Wausau, Wisconsin, on June 8, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born in Bevent on May 27, 1940, to the late Anton and Mattie (Cebula) Wanta. He fought a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease for several years.
Dave married Nancy Kurszewski of Bevent in 1961, and they had two sons during their marriage. They divorced in 1988.
He was a mason contractor by occupation and a musician at heart. Music was in Dave's blood, and his first love was the concertina. He was a band member with Norm Dombrowski's band, the Happy Notes of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, as well as the Polka Knights of Mosinee, Wisconsin, and the Polka Stars of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Dave loved to golf and also to travel, especially to Las Vegas to see his sons. Bingo and trips to the local casinos were among his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his significant other, Jennie Awana of Schofield, WI; son, Troy (Ginger) Wanta of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Mandy and Angie Wanta; and great-grandsons, Trentin, Casen, and Cash, all of Las Vegas. He is further survived by his brothers, Jack (Sue) Wanta and Ron Wanta, all of Bevent; goddaughter, Heidi Krause of Green Bay; along with many close friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Todd; sister, Adeline; brother-in-law, Kelly Wanta; sister-in-law, Debbie Wanta; and nephew, Bryan Wanta.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dave's significant other, Jennie, for all the love and care she gave to Dave over the past 30 years. Thank you also to the wonderful staff at Mount View Care Center for the wonderful care, love, and support to Dave and the family. You will all be in our hearts forever.
